World Mission Sunday

This is a very special year for the world mission; it marks the 150th anniversary of the death of the foundress of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, Pauline Marie Jaricot.  This French lay women, along with her faithful friends and supporters, began the work of mission in the 19th century France.  Today, her work continues in more tan 120 countries throughout the world!

World Mission Sunday is the only day in the year when the whole Church, world-wide gathers in prayer to support its missionaries and to help sustain their efforts to serve in the way that Jesus instructed his disciples.  It is the day set aside by the church to raise mission awareness in all parishes.  Todaya we are acalled to Share the Faith – Give Life.  We are called to share the joy of Christ’s compassion with other and to give life.  This was Pauline’s goal so many years ago.  She worked hard to support the work of missionaries in order for them to give lie – spiritual and material to others.

The Church today is growing and needs our support to share the faith and give life.  Younger Churches in mission countries must be enabled to become self-sufficient and to flourish.  The Canadian Church has a long tradition of support for the world missions.  Our missionaries have a proud history of sharing the faith and providing life giving support throughout the world.  It is through your sacrifices, financial support and prayers that missionaries are able to continue this very important work of the Church.
