Philippine Flood Relief
In response to the heavy rains that have caused flooding in the Philippine capital of Manila, the Archdiocese of Toronto is now accepting funds to support the work taking place in the affected areas. Heavy rains in Manila and surrounding areas have submerged entire communities, causing the death of over 100 people and the displacement of close to 3 million people. The floods have also caused major disruptions to local activities and serious damage to thousands of houses and infrastructure. Nearly 500,000 people have taken refuge in evacuation centers, while another estimate 1.1 million are being hosted by family or friends. The Development Office of the Archdiocese of Toronto is accepting monetary donations to support flood relief efforts through the distribution of food and non-food items, ensuring access to safe drinking water, looking after hygiene and sanitation concerns and repairing and cleaning their homes.
Funds will be forwarded to the Development and Peaceto be distributed to Caritas NASSA. Our parish will be holding a second collection this weekend. Those wishing to help with a financial contribution may do so online through the Archdiocesan website, http://www.archtoronto.org, by phone through the Department office or through the parish, making cheques payable to St. Cecilia’s-Philippine Flood Relief.
