Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
For forty days of Lent we have been on a pilgrimage, journeying with Jesus, Our Lord, and His Apostles.
It began in a desert where Our Lord spent forty days preparing Himself for His Ministry. At the end of this time of prayer and fasting, He faced three temptations from the devil.
We followed in the footsteps of the One who came to preach the Good News, healed the sick, forgave sinners, and consoled the suffering. We witnessed His triumph entry into Jerusalem. We joined Him in his Last Supper, where He washed the feet of his Apostles and instituted the Sacrament of the Eucharist. We wept with Him in the Garden of Gethsemane as He prayed for the courage to do the will of the Father. We stood with Him before Pontius Pilate and Herod. We saw Him fall under the weight of a cross; we witnessed His humiliation as He was stripped, and when He cried out as the nails pierced His sacred hands. We heard His seven last words, including His forgiveness for those who killed the author of Life.
So we come to this day of profound joy, because He who was taken from us has been returned to us. The cause of our joy rests in Our Lord Jesus’ triumph over death. We are made happy, because the very arms stretched out on the Cross are now raised daily to baptize us, to confirm us, to forgive us, to marry us, to ordain us, to anoint us, and above all, to feed us with His holy Body and Blood. Today, through the Resurrection of Jesus, the darkness of death gives way to the bright promise of immortality.
Just as Jesus died and rose, so will we too, if we are faithful to the One who called Himself the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Let us pray together that the Paschal Mystery may work profoundly within us, to make all of us Ambassadors of the Risen Lord. May the Hope and Joy of Easter remain in your heart and in your family forever.
