St. Cecilia’s Refugee Sponsorship Committee

As you may be aware from reports in the news media, Christians in the Middle East, particularly in Iraq and Syria, have been suffering from acts of violence committed against them.  Many have sought refuge in neighboring countries in fear of religious persecution.  Over 2 years ago, our parish agreed to sponsor an Iraqi refugee family of 5, to make it possible for them to leave the Middle East and the religious persecution to live in Canada.  Applications were made and submitted on their behalf and the process has taken considerable time to be completed.  Happily, we believe that the family might be arriving in Toronto very soon.  As their sponsors, we have committed to support the family financially and otherwise for one year from the date of their arrival in Toronto.  One of the major needs and part of our commitment upon their arrival, will be to provide the family with accommodations.

In this regard, if any parishioner has, or may know someone who has, an apartment or house available for rent, suitable to accommodate a family of 5, (3 adults and 2 children), please speak to Fr. Joseph or Angelo Favretto or call the office during office hours  at (416)769-81.63 .

In addition to accommodations, the family will need other basic items such as furniture, linens, appliances, utensils, household goods, clothing, etc.  If anyone is able to help with providing any of these items, please forward an itemized list with your contact information on it, addressed to the St. Cecilia’s Refugee Sponsorship Committee.  Thank you in advance for your understanding and support!

Solemnity of Corpus Christi, Sunday 2 June 2013

As part of the Celebrations for the Year of Faith in Toronto, Cardinal Collins has asked that on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, Eucharistic processions be held throughout the Archdiocese of Toronto.

Parishes in the Central Region are invited to gather at St. Paul’s Basilica at 4:30 p.m. for Mass with His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins; immediately following Mass there will be a Eucharistic procession along Shuter Street to St. Michael’s Cathedral; following a period of silent adoration, Cardinal Collins will celebrate Vespers and Benediction at 7:00 p.m. and conclude with his monthly Lectio Divina for the Year of Faith.  We are encouraged to attend this solemn event in praise of Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist.
